Toll Free Nationwide 1-800-522-2688Abbott Church Supplies - Nativities - 50"According to tradition, Italy was the birthplace of the nativiy scene. In 1223, St. Francis of Assisi first created a living nativity scene using local farmers and animals in the stable setting. St. Francis wanted to show ordinary people that Jesus was just like them. The entire village was involved in this celebration, which was repeated year after year. Soon this celebration spread throughout Italy, and inspired the custom of keeping miniature carved nativity figures in family homes. This custom has grown to be the cener of the Italian Christmas celebration. Traditionally, scenes include characters beyond the core adorned in accessories and clothing to illustrate their role in village life. Today, the fourth generation of the Fontanini family brings you the time-honored Italian nativity Tradition direct from the hills of Tuscany.
